THREE STALKS OF WHEAT STALKED BENEATH STOCKY TREE

Around lunchtime, flipping through the case files again (it was a slow day at work, I swear), something on the eleventh floor caught my eye — and it placed a hidden digit squarely within a reasonable driving distance! I was packing up my things and preparing to take a half-day off when a distraught student brought me a laptop that wouldn't boot. All the files for her final project were on it, and was there anything I could do to get the machine working again?
It turned out to be a difficult problem, so I ended up finishing the work day before getting to leave for the hunt. I called my wife and let her know I'd be home late. Then, stopping first at a hardware store to buy a small shovel and a flashlight, I hit the road. Two hours later, I arrived at the possible location. I was pretty sure I was looking for a marked tree… but the area was full of trees!
A few people gave me curious glances as I carefully inspected every tree in the area. After forty minutes and probably twice that many trees, I began to worry that someone was going to call the police and report my suspicious activity. I was just about ready to give up when I saw it — the tree I'd been looking for!
I sent my wife an excited text message and started digging. And there it was, sealed in a plastic bag: a wooden box about four inches square. Opening the box revealed a bundle of cloth wrapped in string and sealed with wax. Inside the cloth was the jeweled 3 from the Emerald Khroniker, a heavy bronze (I think) digit with two emeralds and three bejeweled metal stalks of wheat attached.
Now I'm looking for a Deducer near the location of another digit I think I've located, to share my guess with. But how to find such a person without tipping off that rascal, Dodge? It's a conundrum...
